Lost River Cave, Bowling Green, KY

Lost River Cave entrance. Kentucky has a lot of caves, because of it's limestone deposits under the top soil, as seen here. The limestone also makes the grass calcium rich which is good for raising horses. And it's an ideal area for bourbin production because the limestone filters out unneccesary minerals.

Dance floor built in the 1930's at the mouth of the cave. It was very cool in the hot southern summers. The patrons climbed 125 steps to get down to the dance area.

Boat ride into the cave.

The honeymoon cottages were very popular in the early 1900s, because the cool air from the cave was piped into the cabins.
